Inside: Learn how to make some fun cookie monster popcorn. This is an easy recipe that can be used at birthday parties or for Halloween.
Containing, popcorn, white chocolate and cookies, this is a dream snack treat which kids are going to love to eat.
If you have been following me for a while, you will know that I LOVE my chocolate popcorn. It is seriously one of the easiest party treats that you can make and it always disappears at every party.
Because it’s amazing that’s why!
It takes literally 5 minutes to make and unfortunately not a whole lot longer to eat! Kids and adults alike tuck into this popcorn and for something so simple, it just has to be made for every party we hold.
It’s not a healthy party treat that’s for sure. Any goodness that was in the popcorn has been overridden with all the chocolate poured all over it, but heck. You have to treat yourself sometime right?
What better time to treat yourself than at a party.
Create Fun Themed Party Food
If possible, I always like to try and tailor the food to match the party theme. I made this monster popcorn for my son’s 2nd monster birthday party. We made the popcorn blue to match the colors of his party which were blue, orange and green. But, the color’s can easily be changed to anything you like and it will still work great.
Themed food is always fun for the kids and I love how it pulls a theme together. I also made monster cupcakes and monster marshmallow pops. These kind of treats are always very popular and very simple to make.
And then there are the extra’s!
To make the chocolate popcorn more unique to suit the theme of the party you will be wanting to add the naughty extra’s.
In the case of this monster popcorn the naughty extra’s are the mini chocolate chip cookies and the candy eyes.
Cookie Monster Popcorn Recipe
The monster popcorn recipe is very easy to do. It is a good idea to have all the ingredients together at the start so that you can quickly add everything together when you need it.
Ingredients you will need to make the monster popcorn:
- Bag of plain popcorn
- Packet of white chocolate melts
- Food coloring of choice
- Mini chocolate chip cookies
- Candy eyes
Step 1: Pour the popcorn into a wide bowl. I used a packet of popcorn, but you may like to try and make your own popcorn.
Step 2: Melt the white chocolate either in the microwave or over the stove. I prefer melting over the stove, but if you do this make sure that no steam touches the chocolate otherwise it will make it clump!
Step 3: As soon as the chocolate is melted, add the food coloring of choice. Stir it well to ensure that the chocolate is all the same color.
Step 4: Pour the melted chocolate over the popcorn.
Mix the popcorn and chocolate together to ensure that all the popcorn is covered. Kids love helping with this part!
Step 5: Add a few of the mini chocolate chip cookies into the bowl. Stir the cookies into the chocolate popcorn mix.
Step 6: Spread the chocolate popcorn with the mini cookies out onto a lined tray to dry.
At this point you can add some more mini cookies so that they stick, but are not seen to be completely covered with chocolate.
Step 7: Now it’s time to get the popcorn really looking like monster popcorn by adding the candy eyes!
As these are cute little white eyes, add them at the end so that they don’t get all covered with the colored chocolate. It is a good idea however to add them straight away to ensure that they still stick to the chocolate popcorn.
Step 8: Leave the monster popcorn to completely dry, and then serve as you wish.
For parties I like to place in a large glass bowl, and add a spoon for serving.
There you have it. Super easy monster popcorn that is perfect for a monster birthday bash or for enjoying over Halloween.
Make a few batches of different colors and see which look you prefer. Either way, it’s fun to make and even more fun to eat! Let’s stay in touch. Did you love the easy monster popcorn?
