Popcorn is one of those foods that everyone loves. What makes it even better (if that’s even possible), is that there are so many ways to be creative with it.

One of the easiest popcorn makeovers is to make chocolate popcorn and it is a winner every single time.

It takes zero skill in the baking department. This is however one of those recipes that the adults literally fight the kids for.

Why?  Because it is absolutely amazing.

You only need to try chocolate popcorn once to be converted and then you will never look back.

For this recipe I added extra chocolate as chunks, because you can never have to much chocolate right?

Trust me when I say that chocolate and popcorn is a winning combination.

This is a white chocolate popcorn recipe, but you can use whatever chocolate you wish. Mix things up, try new combinations and see what you like the best.

Big bowl of chunky monkey popcorn

This chocolate popcorn was made for my son’s 1st birthday monkey party, so we added green, yellow and brown M&M’s to it for that extra chocolate hit and for some added color on the party table.

The result?  Well let’s just say there were not any leftovers!

The Chocolate Popcorn Recipe That The Kids Can Make

I don’t know about you, but when I am prepping the food for a party, my oldest always wants to help.

I feel kind of bad constantly saying “not right now” or “in a minute you can” because let’s face it, with 100 things to organize it is not the ideal time to start baking with the kids.

However THIS white chocolate covered popcorn recipe was the perfect thing to let her help with.

She was happy because she was contributing to the preparation and I was happy because it freed up some time for me.

I did melt the chocolate for her, but otherwise she did everything else herself.

5 Easy Steps To Creating Chocolate Drizzled Popcorn

Step 1: Melt your chocolate over the stove or in the microwave.

Personally I love melting the chocolate over the stove so I can take control of the melting process. You can however use whatever method works for you.

Melt chocolate into a saucepan

Step 2: Open a bag of popcorn into a bowl and once the chocolate has melted pour it over the top.

Give the chocolate and the popcorn a good stir, to ensure that every little bit has been covered.

Step 3: If you wish to add extra chocolate (of course you do), simply do this now by adding some M&M’s.

There is no limit to how much you want to put it. It is really personal choice.

We wanted to use only the colors green, brown and yellow in our popcorn, so after my little helper had separated all the colors in the M&M packet, she put them all in the bowl and gave a good stir.

Add chocolate

The additional chocolate pieces that you add will loose some of their color as they become covered in the melted chocolate.

You may want to keep some aside to add on at the end (if you want to maintain a color pop).

Step 4: Once everything is mixed in together, spread the chocolate popcorn mix out onto a covered baking tray to set.

It is better to try and create a thin layer of popcorn otherwise it will all clump together in one big piece.

If you have kept some chocolate aside for the color ‘pop’, now is a great time to add them on the top.

Now you simply just need the patience to wait….wait….wait….until the chocolate popcorn has set.

Step 5: If your making the chocolate popcorn for a party, serve it in a beautiful apothecary jar.

Otherwise, if it’s for a movie night, grab the largest bowl you can find to make it easier to tuck into!

You Can Never Make Too Much Chocolate Popcorn

Made too much popcorn?

Not a problem because it will still be fine if kept in an airtight container overnight.

I always complete my party food preparation the day before and this popcorn was absolutely fine the following day. In fact, we have kept it for several days before and it has still tasted great.

So if you think your baking skills are not up to scratch, but you want to make something fun for your next party?

This is totally the recipe for you.

Maybe make an extra batch for the adults though, just to make sure that the kids actually get some!
