4 Easy Steps To Adorable Easy Monster Cupcakes
These adorable monster cupcakes are SO easy to make, yet the end result is so incredibly effective.
In just four simple steps you will have created some gorgeous monster cupcakes that will truly wow your guests.
Are you ready to learn how to make monster cupcakes the easy way? Let’s get going.
Step 1: The first thing you need to do is to bake the yummy cupcakes. You can either choose your favorite cupcake recipe or use cake mixes.
I always opt for a cake mix when I am making cupcakes for parties. This is largely due to the fact that I am managing my time, and I would rather spend the time decorating the cupcakes than making them.
If however you have a great recipe that you like to use, then you can totally do that.
Step 2: Leave the cupcakes to cool on a wire rack at room temperature. Whilst you are waiting you can start preparing the frosting color. Again you can either make your own buttercream or you can pre-purchase it.
I bought a huge tub of buttercream as I was also using it to make my son’s monster birthday cake.
It can take a while to make when making it in bulk, so this way saved me a heap of time.
Once you have bought or made the frosting, decide what color you would like your monster cupcakes to be. Make up separate bowls of color frosting using food coloring.
Whilst I was using the colors of blue, green and orange for my son’s party, I decided to just use two colors for the cupcakes.
I decorated the chocolate cupcakes with green icing and the vanilla cupcakes with orange icing to end up with orange and green monster cupcakes.
It is up to you how many variety of colors you wish to use.
Tip: Add the coloring a little bit at a time until you get the desired colors. You can always add more, but it is harder to make it lighter if you add too much!
Whatever color you choose to decorate with, ensure that it is a bright color so that it makes a nice big impact.
Step 3: Now that the cupcakes have cooled and you have prepared your vanilla frosting, you can start to create the hair of the monsters on the top of the cupcake.
You will need to place the icing into a piping bag. To prepare the bag, cut off the top of the bag and place a grass icing tip inside.
The grass icing tip has a lot of holes in it and you need this to create the very thin hair look.
I used the Wilton 233 grass tip which is used for grass and hair. This worked perfectly.
You only need to squeeze out a small amount of frosting to achieve this look.
Once you have done this, quickly pull the piping bag away.
If it’s your first time using this baking tip, don’t worry. The best part about this type of frosting style is that it doesn’t matter if it’s not neat. You are creating little monsters and it really doesn’t matter if the hair is a bit untidy in places.
You will see some frosting spikes and some of them might droop a little, but that’s ok. You don’t want it looking too uniformed otherwise it won’t look like fur.
Start by piping a row around the cupcake and then slowly move towards the center. Keep going until all the cupcake has been covered. It is also not necessary however to cover the entire surface of the cupcake, but you you can if you wish.
Monster Cupcakes With Googly Eyes
This is the step that really brings these cupcakes to life.
The monster cupcakes with eyes really pop out at you and suddenly they look so incredibly adorable.
Step 4: Once you are happy that the cupcake has been covered sufficiently, you can add the candy eyes.
I put two eyes onto these monster cupcakes, but you could mix it up from 1-3 eyes to give a variety of faces.
The number of eyes you use will change the look of the cupcake so it’s up to you how you would like them to look.
That’s it, you are finished. I did say they were going to be easy.
Now simply repeat the process in as many different colors as you wish.
These are simple, no fuss monster cupcakes that you can literally whip up pretty quickly and the the whole family will love them.
I always make the cupcakes the day before the party and this always allows the frosting to set nicely.
Plus, I hate making party snacks on the day of the party.
Make sure however that you store the cupcakes in an airtight container to keep their freshness.
That’s just way to much mess to have to clear up!
What do you think? Arn’t these the cutest little guys ever?
