My son requested a Spiderman themed birthday party for his 5th birthday and I instantly knew this was going to be fun.
The party theme allows for a bright and vibrant party that the kids will have a great time with.
It’s a fun idea to also ask all the kids to dress up as Spiderman or as their favorite superhero.
The party was fun to coordinate, even more fun to hold and the end result was a very happy birthday boy.
Spiderman Themed Party Decorations
The key to creating a themed party is always in the decor. The decor doesn’t have to be complicated, but makes a huge difference when creating an atmosphere.
The first thing to do is decide how you want your party to look and feel and the rest of the party details will come together from there.
There are a lot of Spiderman birthday party supplies that can be purchased at both an online store and instore.
You can pick up Spiderman plates, napkins, tablecloths etc. Alternatively the dollar store is a great source for Spiderman birthday decorations where you can concentrate on a simple color scheme.
For this Spiderman birthday party I used three main colors of blue, red and black.
An easy way to create a focal area at a party is to coordinate a party backdrop. This can be used to highlight the party table or used as a photo booth. Or you could easily coordinate two!
This party backdrop was created simply by using red, blue and black plastic tablecloths. It was simple and cheap to make and looked incredible. Use my great tutorial to help you create your own backdrop.
At the back of the table I created a night city scene. This was undertaken by wrapping various shaped box’s in black paper and then sticking some yellow card to form windows.
The box’s were scattered around the back of the table and gave great definition against the party backdrop.
I always like to include a decorated number. The number 5 was painted red and covered with a spider web.
Whilst you could use various Spiderman character decorations, I like to keep things simple with the use of color and then add just one of two specific features.
This was undertaken with simply adding a few small Spiderman figurines and with the use of printables.
Staying with colors rather than themed merchandise really helps to keep the cost down. It is also super easy to find colored tablecloths, plates, napkins etc.
Scattered around the party area I also added plain red, black and blue balloons rather than specific Spiderman balloons.
Then I simply added some Superhero sayings as a finishing touch.
Spiderman Themed Birthday Party Food
Every time I hold a party for my kids, I create a themed food party table that acts as a stand out feature of the party.
It’s definitely a “wow” factor as party guests arrive.
Whilst not all the food on the table is “themed” to the party, it is fun to incorporate as much themed food as possible.
If this isn’t possible with turning it into the actual theme, then I try and incorporate colors instead.
For this party I used red and blue jello, and red and blue sprinkles to create the fairy bread.
Even the plate of fresh fruit had red and blue in it with the use of watermelon, strawberries and blueberries.
Adding food that shares the color scheme of the party is very simple and really helps to elevate the overall theme.
The main feature on the food table was the birthday cake. The cake was purchased for the party and we had it designed with the night city scene on the sides with a spider web hanging down.
The top contained a simple Spiderman cake topper. The cake look incredible and really helped command the table.
The themed food that I chose to incorporate were Spiderman cupcakes and Spiderman cookies.
The Spiderman cupcakes were a lot of fun to make and simply required a fondant topper on buttercream. The toppers were made to resemble Spiderman heads and they looked incredible.
The Spiderman cookies were also a lot of fun and again they were easy to make. The cookies were covered with red icing and then a spider web design was drawn onto some of the cookies.
Other cookies were left blank, and I added a plastic black spider.
This was super simple but very effective. You could also mix things up further and have a mix of red and blue icing on the cookies.
Cake pops always look very impressive on a party table, but they are not necessarily the easiest party food to make.
Instead I created Spiderman marshmallow pops, which look very similar but are so much easier to make. They are always very popular.
Other party food included:
- Various candy
- Donuts
- Chocolate popcorn
Spiderman Party Game Ideas
It is always a good idea to coordinate party games prior to the start of the party. A little bit of effort put in beforehand will save you a whole lot of stress during the actual party.
There are a wide range of kids party games to choose from that are suitable for all ages.
Alternatively you may like to incorporate some Spiderman themed specific games. We themed several of the Spiderman party games including:
- Musical Statues: The children had to dance and stand in a superhero pose when the music stopped.
- Under Over Game: The children were split into teams and each team was given a Spiderman ball. They stood in a line and had to pass the ball between their legs, then over the head, then between the legs, over the head … repeat. The child at the end of the line then ran to the front with the ball and they started again. Once the line was the same as when the game started the team had won.
- Shooting Spiders: Each child was given a small water pistol filled with water (which was also theirs to take home). Around the garden we hung several plastic spiders. The children went around the garden shooting the spiders. The children were all given their own Spiderman mask to wear whilst playing the game. This was such a simple game but the loved it.
- Spidey Senses Shooting: Each child was given a can of silly string, which they simply used to run around and shoot each other with.
- Spiderman Pinata: The pinata was filled with various candy. This is a fun game that the kids always enjoy. Be sure to have some extra candy on hand to pass out to any children who didn’t run quick enough!
Party Favors
Instead of handing out a party favor bag at the end of the party, the favors were included as a party game.
Each child was given an empty bag with their name on and a map that showed a treasure trail of different Spiderman poses.
As a group the children had to follow the map and find each Spiderman in turn. Once found, they were given a party favor to add to their bag.
The kids absolutely loved this, and it was a great way to engage them in a different type of scavenger hunt.
There are many small Spiderman party favors that can be handed out including:
- Spiderman stickers or tatoos
- Spiderman mini note books
- Spiderman stamps
- Spiderman key chains
- Spiderman rubber bracelets
