How To Make Fondant Spiderman Cupcake Toppers
These Spiderman cupcake toppers are surprisingly easy to make, and the end result looks really professional. They are great because you really don’t need to have any cake decorating skills to create them.
Plus of course the kids will absolutely love them, and that’s what we are aiming for!
Follow these simple steps to create the most amazing and easy Spiderman cupcakes.
Create A Red Fondant Circle Base
The red circle fondant base needs to be made and then set before any further decoration can occur.
Use a round cookie cutter to create the bases. Measure the size of the cookie cutter to fit the size of the cupcake cases you will be using.
Step 1: Before you roll out the fondant, place some CMC powder inside and mix together. Use 1 to 2 teaspoons of mix to every pound of fondant and kneed together immediately.
The powder will ensure that the fondant hardens when left to dry.
Step 2: Once the CMC powder has been mixed in, roll out the fondant cut out the bases using the cookie cutter. An 1/8 of an inch is usually a good measurement to use
Place the bases onto a lined baking tray and leave to harden for approximately 2 days.
Tip: Ensure that you only add the CMC powder to the fondant that you wish to use. The powder will harden the fondant and you will need to throw away any excess.
Create Spiderman’s Eyes
Step 3: At the same time as making the red fondant bases you will need to make Spiderman’s eyes using the white fondant.
Use a very small round cutter to do this.
Follow the same process of adding the CMC powder to harden the fondant, roll the fondant and cut out the circles. Leave the circles to dry with the red fondant bases.
Draw On Spiderman’s Web Face
Step 4: The webbing is drawn on using an edible black pen. It might look quite daunting knowing where to start, but don’t worry, I will break it down nice and easy for you.
Firstly ensure that you are using something flat to draw your lines. I used a cake ruler, but you could easily just use the handle of a flat knife, or anything straight and flat in your kitchen drawers.
Start by drawing two black lines to form a cross.
Step 5: Draw another cross so that you now have 8 triangle segments. This will have been created from the 4 lines.
Step 6: Draw the connecting webbing, starting from the outside in.
Draw small curves to connect the lines together.
Step 7: Continue adding this same webbing pattern until you reach the middle.
Attach Spiderman’s Eyes To His Face
Step 8: Spiderman’s eyes are made using the small white discs.
Cut the white circles in half using a sharp knife.
Use some fondant glue (available from any cake store) and paint the back of the eyes. Gently press this onto the red disc and leave to the side.
To create an effective look, try and line up the flat edge of the cut circle with the lines on the webbing.
How To Store Fondant Toppers
Now that the fondant toppers have been made, they can be put aside until you need to attach them to the cupcakes. This is best done on the day that you want to eat the cupcakes.
The fondant will soften when added to the buttercream, so leaving them to the last minute to add to the cupcakes will ensure that your cake toppers look crisp and fresh for the time that you need them.
Until you need to add them to the cupcakes, store carefully in an air tight container. Ensure that the glue has completely dried however before you try stacking toppers on top of each other.
The toppers are very quick and easy to place on the cupcake as you are setting up the party table, so don’t worry as this is not going to cause any extra last minute stress for you.
STAGE 2: BAKE AND CREAM THE CUPCAKES
Step 9: Bake the cupcakes. It doesn’t matter what type of cupcakes you bake or whether you choose to bake from scratch or use a packet mix. I personally always use a packet mix for parties simply because I find it quicker and easier. The choice is however yours.
My son likes chocolate cake, so we always include that, but we also bake vanilla cupcakes too.
Step 10: Once the cupcakes have cooled, pipe the buttercream onto the top into a cupcake swirl.
Don’t worry too much about perfection here as the Spiderman cake topper will cover up most of the buttercream.
Tip: How To Pipe A Classic Buttercream Swirl
Step 11: On the day of the party, add the Spiderman fondant toppers to the top of the buttercream and press down gently.
This can be undertaken several hours before you need them and the fondant will still stay fresh.
Just ensure that you don’t place the cupcakes in the fridge after you have added the Spiderman cupcake toppers as the moisture will affect the fondant.
With the cool topper, they look like large cupcakes, which makes them even more tempting to eat.
The Spiderman cupcakes are now fully complete and can be enjoyed in all their glory.
The Spider-man cupcakes are a lot of fun to make and they definitely make a standout treat at a party.
Everyone loves a cupcake, but when it’s a themed cupcake it’s even more tempting.
Luckily, these Spiderman cupcakes are so incredibly easy to make and leave you with a professional finished look.
I’m sure your little Superhero is going to love them!

Hi, what if i dont have cmc powder?
Catherine Holt says
The CMC powder can be purchased from any cake decorating shop. The CMC powder is what makes the fondant dry hard. If you don’t have it, you can still make the toppers but you wont be able to guarantee the fondant shapes will remain in place as you want them to.
