If the birthday child likes slime, then they will be guaranteed to love a slime party.
Let’s face it. There will be lots and lots of slime!
It’s even possible to further narrow down the theme of the slime party.
You could have a glitter slime party, a unicorn slime party or a rainbow slime party. You get the idea here right?
There are so many options that it really is a party where all guests will have a great time.
In this post we will walk you through everything that you need. Use these slime party ideas to create the most epic slime ever.
What Is A Slime Birthday Party?
A slime party is literally as simple as it sounds. It’s a party that contains lots and lots of slime.
But you also want to include slime into as many aspects of the party as possible. The food, the decorations, the games and of course making the actual slime!
There are two very noticeable different types of slime.
There is the thicker slime that you use to play with. This is the type of slime that probably first comes to mind. It can be made colorful, sparkly or even have small toys in.
Then there is the runny kind of water slime. This is the slime that is often used in games. You can pour it, so it is very very messy!
Due to the mess involved, a slime party is typically held outside, especially if using the runny kind of slime.
If you are purchasing slime to use at a kids party, ensure that you check the slime is non toxic and biodegradable.
Slime Party Decorations
Slime party decorations are a lot of fun. You will be able to find a lot of themed slime decorations online, but also check out your local dollar store.
Slime party decorations are typically bright, colorful and splodgy.
Of course anything that looks like a “splat” will work well as a decoration.
Some great ideas include:
Behind the food main table it is always a good idea to include a party backdrop.
A backdrop is easy to do and can be achieved by simply using plastic tablecloths. Choose 3 colors that you want to use throughout the party and it will make a huge impact.
Slime Party Food
Themed food is also fun at parties and you can do a lot of fun things with a slime theme.
Now whilst you can make some edible slime, that isn’t really the substance of your food table.
Some great slime food ideas include:
- Jello – Jello in lots of different colors is a great party food.
- Chocolate Dipped Oreo’s – Cover the oreo’s in chocolate and leave to dry. Then add splodges of a different colored chocolate over the top of the Oreo and let it drip down the side. The splodges will resemble slime.
- Marshmallow Pops – Just like the Oreo’s, cover the marshmallow pops with chocolate and then leave to dry. Once dry they can be splattered with another color of chocolate.
- Splodge Cookies – Decorate the top of the cookies with splodges.
- Cupcakes – Fill cupcakes with some edible slime or drizzle the cupcake frosting with edible slime.
Otherwise there are lots of other kids party food that you can add onto the food table.
Set Up The Slime Stations
There is no way to hide this. A slime party is going to get messy. Lots of squishy sticky slime with lots of little hands.
It’s a mess, but it’s a fun mess!
But the mess can be contained provided that you are prepared!
There are several things to consider when setting up for your slime making party.
Cover tables – The best idea to cover tables is to use disposable plastic tablecloths. There will be no need to worry about cleaning the cloth afterwards and you simply need to gather it together and throw it away!
Keep away from decent furniture – Slime is known for being difficult to get out of fabric. So make sure that the slime table is kept away from seating that has cushions, or just remove them out of the way!
Aprons – Slime is known for being difficult to get out of clothes. Whilst you can advise party guests to wear older clothing (just in case), wearing an apron helps for added protection. The bonus here too is that it would look super cute and you can color theme the aprons to the rest of the party.
Set up Individual Supplies – To make it easier for the party guests to make their slime, it is a good idea to set up little stations that contain everything needed.
Each guest should have their own bowl, utensils and slime ingredients to make their own slime. There are many slime kits available that can be purchased to make this job a bit easier for you.
Containers – Every guest should have a container that they can place their slime in to go home. The kids will love their little slime jars!
Have Volunteers – Ensure that you have enough adults present to help the kids make their slime. There will be lots of kids making slime all at the same time and one pair of hands will only go so far! Make sure that you have some parents, family or teenagers who are willing to help, and this make the party flow a lot easier.
Slime Recipe – Choose a simple easy slime recipe that you can make with the kids. A borax free recipe is preferable.
Slime Party Games & Activities
It is always a good idea to coordinate some kids party games. This helps the party to run smoothly and ensures that all the kids are kept occupied and having a good time.
There are so many different slime party activities and games which you can incorporate into your party.
Warning though: Things could get messy!
Slime Soaker – This game is for the runny type of slime. And there is no denying this, but this game is SUPER messy!
Gather water guns and instead of filling them with water, fill them with the runny slime.
Load the guns with different colored slime and separate the kids into teams. The winning team will be the one that managed to cover the others in their slime.
If playing this game, ensure that the kids are all in OLD clothes or white clothes. It would be a good idea to give the kids some goggles to protect their eyes.
Slime Bombs – Another messy game, which uses the runny slime into water balloons. Then simply have a balloon slime fight.
Find The Missing Object – Hide some small objects inside bowls of slime. The objects could be anything such as tiny plastic animals. The kids have 1 minute to find as many objects in their bowl as they can.
Slime Snakes – With the slime that the kids have just made, have some competitions of who can stretch their slime the longest to make a snake. Lay the snakes on the table and measure. Once someone has won, the competition can be started again.
Of course there is nothing to say that you have to play specific “slime” games at a slime party.
If you are hosting a party with younger children or you simply want to avoid the added mess, just stick to regular party games. It will still be LOTS of fun!
You might however be brave to try out some of the messy games with the older kids.
If you are keen for a messy time, then you might like to add some of these messy games to the list too.
Slime Party Favors
It’s generally a tradition to give the kids little party bags as they leave a party.
The slime that the kids have made at the party is a perfect party favor, but you may want to add another tub of slime to the bag too.
Another great party favor idea would be to give a slime book so that kids can make their own different recipes when they get home.
Or you could print off one recipe with all the ingredients and a tub for the kids to make.
Otherwise, add a few treats and lollies and the kids will be more than happy.
Slime Party Clean Up Hacks
Being prepared for the clean up of this party is just as important as the coordination of the party itself.
Be prepared with the disposable tablecloth’s that you can instantly clear and throw away after the party.
If the kids have been playing messy slime games, ensure that you have a changing area set up so that the kids can change out of their messy clothes and into clean clothes. This will prevent slime from dropping absolutely everywhere!
It goes without saying that slime party games need to be played outside. If a large mess has been created, be prepared to hose it down.
Ensure that all the kids have the opportunity to wash their hands with soap and water after playing messy slime games.
There is no doubt that slime parties can get a little bit messy. How much mess depends on the kinds of slime games and activities that you choose.
For a less messy party, let the kids create their own slime at a coordinated slime table, and then move onto more traditional party games and activities. Older children will however likely be keen to get messy with the fun slime games and activities.
However you choose to coordinate this party, it will be the best kind of party and one that the kids will absolutely love. Simply choose the type of party that is suitable for the age of the kids you will have present.
