Pretzel Flowers Are The Perfect Sweet & Salty Combination

Just recently I have been addicted to a sweet and salty combination. This is quite unlike me.

In the past I have always been an all sweet or all savory kind of girl. I don’t like to mix!

But, all of a sudden this weird sensation has hit my taste buds. Sweet and salty combined. It’s not a new thing, but it is to my taste buds and to be honest they are kind of liking it!

I have found myself reaching for the salted caramel chocolate and even the sea salt chocolate. What has become of me?

Recently my daughter celebrated her 6th birthday by having a Trolls themed birthday party. She wanted “all the color’s of the rainbow”, so I was trying to put together as many colorful treats as I could.

The pretzel flowers were a winner!

Not only were they colorful, but they looked like little flowers, which is perfect for a Trolls themed party!  They would also work well for a Spring party or a rainbow party.

Don’t you just love versatile party food?

I have to admit that they were a little fiddly to make, but that was mainly because I was trying to make them whilst taking photos to share with you and keep occupied my 6 and 1 year old’s. Not an overly easy task!

But, if I could make them with all that fuss going on, I’m pretty convinced that you could knock them out if you have a quiet hour to spare. You don’t need to take photos of the process, so you can make them when the kids have gone to bed right?

Ingredients You Will Need To Make Pretzel Flowers

You really don’t need to go on a shopping haul to make these beauties. You simply need the following;

  • Bag of Pretzels
  • White chocolate melts
  • Smarties or M&Ms

Whilst it is very tempting to much on these goodies whilst making the pretzel flowers, try and resist the urge. It will be worth it when you see all your beautiful flowers!

Make Beautiful Pretzel Flowers in 6 Easy Steps

Step 1: Separate the smarties into colors.

Selection of smarties

Step 2: Line a baking tray with grease proof paper and lay out the pretzels.

Step 2: Melt the white chocolate either over a saucepan or in the microwave.

Tip: Make sure that you do not allow any water to come into contact with the chocolate otherwise it will go hard and clumpy.

Step 3: Cover the pretzel with the melted chocolate. It doesn’t matter if the chocolate drips down the side as you won’t notice this when the smarties are on top.

Place chocolate around the pretzel

Step 4: Add a smartie into the middle of the pretzel.

Step 5: Add smarties around the edge of the middle one. Continue to add them until you have circled the middle smartie.

Step 6: Leave the pretzel flowers aside so that the chocolate can harden.

That’s it. The pretzel flowers are complete!

Have some fun with the colors, play around with them and see what combinations you can come up with.  The more variety, the prettier they will look.

Once the chocolate has hardened gently remove them from the grease proof paper, being careful not to bash the smarties off the top.

Whilst they are best eaten fresh, they stayed pretty good in an air tight container for a few days after the party (because yes I way over-catered for what we actually needed).

I do love having left overs at a party though don’t you?

I always make more than I need so we can feast on party treats for the week following a party.

That is totally normal though right?

So, whether you are having a rainbow party, a Trolls party or just simply looking for a colorful treat, these pretzel flowers are going to make the perfect party snack.
