Every year that I have ever had a Christmas tree it has been a real one. I love the smell of the pine as soon as I open the front door.

To me it just isn’t Christmas without it.

We are very lucky that we live very close to a Christmas tree farm. That means that every year we go to the farm, choose which tree we would like and literally chop it down.

No kidding, we chop it down ourselves!

It doesn’t matter how big or how small you would like your tree, there is something for everyone. It’s pretty awesome.

What I really dislike however about getting a real Christmas tree is the setting up of it when we get home.

We have to drag this 7 foot tree into the house (because we always have to go over the top with these things), set the tree up in it’s base, ensure that it is straight and of course ensure that the best part of the tree is facing into the room.

In the meantime we have left a trail of branches across the floor, including a whole heap of dirt.

This is all whilst doing our best to keep the kids occupied and out of harms way.

Trust me, a 7 foot real tree is not safe until it is securely in place and the last thing you need is kids under your feet whilst trying to achieve it.

We seriously need a team of helpers when we do this, but each year, it’s just myself and my husband and we have the same saga.

Any normal family would say enough is enough and go and buy a fake tree,  but not us. We persist because once that tree is up, it is truly amazing.

But before the decoration can begin, the lights need to be put on, and that is another task that seems to take forever.

If I had a fake tree, I would do all this whilst the kids are in bed, so that first thing in the morning they can get straight to the fun part – the decorating.

But, that’s not the case for us, and manage the situation we must!

Christmas Word Search Puzzles Are A Great ‘Time Filler’

I learn’t very quickly that whilst this whole process is going on, kids need to be kept occupied.

Despite having a room full of toys, they don’t want to play with them because the Christmas tree saga is far too exciting, but also boring!

I found that providing my daughter with a Christmas themed activity works a treat for keeping her excitement up, whilst also being kept occupied and safe!

Then the mission is on to get the tree safely in place with the lights on before she has finished the activity!

She has just completed her first reception year at school and she loves reading and writing.

Rather than purchase an activity for her to undertake, this year I made some printable Christmas word search puzzles for her to complete.

They were a hit. She absolutely loved them.

They were long enough to keep her occupied, but not too difficult that she became frustrated.

I designed two, one nativity and one general Christmas. She completed and enjoyed both of them.

I often have Christmas coloring pages on hand too, because you never know when you might need to reach for them to fill in a bit more time!

My son?

Well he is only 21 months old, so he was a completely different story, but it’s best not to go into that!

Each of the word searches has 20 words to find and the words are placed horizontally, vertically and diagonally. They are perfect to use for any occasion that you just need to keep the kids busy for a few (or more) minutes.

Nativity word search puzzles

The Christmas word search puzzles are a ton of fun and I know that your kids are going to absolutely love them.

In among all the fun of Christmas, these word searches are also educational, and the kids don’t even realize it. They help with spelling and organizational patterns.

Word Search Puzzles For Christmas

If you have a couple of children doing the word search at the same time, they could even have a race to see who completes it first.

It’s best that you print off both if you are going to do this though as you don’t want the activity finished too quickly!
