6 Simple Steps To The Best Flower Cookies
Every time I make cookies for a party, the same recipe is used. It’s easy to do, and works great for creating simple decoration on the top.
Scroll down for the full recipe.
Once baked, follow the 6 steps to make the cookies look beautiful.
Step 1: Using a flower cookie cutter, cut out the flower cookies. Bake and leave to cool.
Step 2: To create the flower decoration pattern, you will need to use some icing and some sugar flowers.
For an easy solution, use pre-made icing to top the cookies. This will ensure the perfect consistency and it will set super quick.
This means no mess, no fuss and gets the job done quick smart.
Step 3: Pour the icing into a piping bag and carefully draw an outline of the flower on the top of the cookie. Once you are happy with the shape of the icing, use the piping bag to pipe icing into the middle.
Tip: The outer coating of the icing sets hard quickly, so any decoration needs to be added immediately. If undertaking a large batch of cookies, add the icing to a few cookies at one time, then add the decoration before icing more cookies.
How long does Royal Icing Last on Cookies?
Whist you can pre-make the cookies and store in the freezer until the last minute, you can not freeze the cookies once the royal icing has been placed on the top.
Once the cookies have been completely finished, they can be stored in an air-tight container for up to a week at room temperature. This makes them ideal for parties because you arn’t restricted to making them at the last minute.
Ensure that you place some parchment paper in between the cookies when you store them.
Step 4: Using a cake decorating sculpting tool carefully create some lines in the icing to form flower petals. Create the line from the center to the corners of the flower pattern.
As the tool was lifted, the icing slightly moved up with it which created a little edge. Don’t worry about this, as this all helps to create the illusion of the petals.
Step 5: Place a royal icing flower into the center of the cookie.
Pre-purchased sugar flowers are perfect for this job.
However if you are feeling adventurous you can follow a great tutorial to make royal icing flowers. I was lucky enough to find the exact color that I wanted to use, but if you can’t then making them could be another great option for you.
Step 6: Leave the cookies until they are completely firm. The outside crust of the icing sets very quickly, but the icing in the middle is still soft and damp.
It is recommended that the cookies are left to dry for several hours in a single flat layer.
There you have it. Simple but gorgeous tropical flower cookies. Trust me, these wont last long at any party. It’s a good job that they are quick and simple to make so you can whip up a double batch!
