I LOVE having cupcakes at my kids parties.
I love being able to be a little bit creative with the party theme, whilst also making something that is super simple for others to recreate.
These paw patrol cupcake toppers were perfect for that. They instantly transformed a cupcake into something special that made my 3 year old’s eyes pop out his head.
That’s when you know you are onto a winner!
Even my 7 year old daughter was impressed and she said that she thought they were the best cupcakes I had ever made. Got to be happy with that.
Paw Patrol Cupcake Ingredients
There isn’t a lot of ingredients you need to make these cupcakes, but you will need to have the following on hand;
- Cupcake Mix
- Buttercream
- White Fondant
- Red Fondant
- Paw Print and Bone Mold
- Round Cookie Cutters
- CMC Powder
- Fondant Glue
I tend to make my cupcakes from a packet mix as it saves time when preparing for a party.
However if you have a favorite recipe and like to make your cupcakes from scratch then go for it.
Easy Paw Patrol Cupcake Toppers
What makes these Paw Patrol cupcakes so special are the puppy print cupcake toppers. Take them off and they are a cupcake like any other.
Whilst they are great for a Paw Patrol party, you could also easily use them for a puppy party and change the colors to suit your theme.
If however the thought of making a cupcake topper makes you cringe, you really don’t need to worry.
I get it, I truly do. But, these are super simple and if I can make them, you can too.
If you can roll out fondant and squash it into a mold then you can make these toppers. Seriously, that is all there is to it!
Tip: You will need to prepare these cupcake toppers ahead of time to enable them to harden, so make sure you make them a few days prior to needing them.
5 Steps To Amazing Paw Patrol Toppers
Step 1: Add a small amount of CMC to the fondant to allow it to harden.
Use 1 to 2 teaspoons of mix to every pound of fondant and kneed together immediately. If you are unsure, there are several ways to harden fondant that you can check out.
Step 2: Roll out the red fondant thick enough to make the toppers sturdy but not too thick that they are chunky. An 1/8 of an inch is usually a good measurement to use.
Step 2: Using a round cookie cutter that is about the same size as the top of your cupcake, cut some circles out of the fondant.
Put them aside on a lined tray.
Step 3: Like you did with the red fondant, mix some CMC mix to some white fondant.
Step 4: Press the white fondant into the puppy paw mold. Scrape away the edges and then carefully release the paw from the mold.
Put aside to set.
Repeat with the bone mold.
Step 5: Once the red dics and the white paws have hardened you can join them together.
Use some fondant glue (available from any cake store) and paint the back of the white paw and bones. Gently press this onto the red disc and leave to the side.
I had vanilla and chocolate cupcakes at the party and I put the paw print on top of one flavor and the bone on top of the other flavor.
How Do You Store Fondant Toppers?
This is something I pondered with a lot when I first started making fondant toppers. I had no clue whether to add them straight onto the cupcake or to add them at the last minute.
However you don’t need to ponder for long because the answer is definitely to add them at the last minute!
When I say last minute, I mean anywhere up to a few hours before you need them. Before that time, store them in an air tight container until the day that you need them.
The toppers are very quick and easy to place on the cupcake as you are setting up the party table, so don’t worry as this is not going to cause any extra last minute stress for you.
How Do You Make Paw Patrol Cupcakes?
Step 1: Make the toppers a few days before you need them.
Step 2: The day prior to the party, bake the cupcakes and top them with buttercream.

Step 3: On the day of the party, gently place the puppy print disc onto the top of the cupcake.
That’s it!
Your Paw Patrol cupcakes are ready for action.
I made the fondant discs red as my son loves Marshall, so we were using red as a main color theme for his party.
It is super easy to make them Chase cupcakes by making the discs blue, or Skye cupcakes by making them pink. If you want to do the whole Paw Patrol crew, make several different color bases.
Have fun with it and experiment.
