But first things first. If you plan on creating a lemonade stand, you need to know what you are going to do with it.

Read on for some inspiration for easy lemonade stand ideas

Tips For A Successful Lemonade Stand

Decide on a location

Have a think about where you will place your lemonade stand. Of course there is the obvious backyard for the kids to play and have fun, but if your kids want to actually try and make a few dollars with their stand, then you need to be a bit creative.

If you live on a busy street, take your stand to the end of the driveway or on the corner so that you stand out. Perhaps if your street isn’t busy enough, your family might live in a better location.

Make it stand out

Having curb appeal is really important to gain attraction to the lemonade stand. Have a think about how you will decorate to make it look pretty. You will find ideas on this further down in the post.

What do you put in a lemonade stand?

When setting up your stand, there are a number of basic things that you need to include. These are:

  • Cups
  • Glass pitcher/s of lemonade so customers can see what they are buying
  • Extra goodies such as cupcakes, cookies.
  • Paper towels for mopping up any unexpected spills
  • Donation/cash container to ensure that all the money stays safe

Advertise

One of the best ways to get noticed is to advertise. This is a great way to teach the kids about marketing. They could create some flyers to drop in letter box’s, create some signs or put an ad in the paper.

Determine your price

Sit down with the kids and determine how much everything is going to cost. The lemonade could sell for $0.50 or $0.75 and then charge extra for your cupcakes and other items.

Otherwise you could always just ask for a donation without setting a price. Sometimes you can actually earn more this way as people are more inclined to pop in a bit extra.

Setting up

Whilst the object of the exercise is to have fun, it is important to talk to the kids about how they should use their manners with customers. Talk to the kids about how everyone will have a turn at taking orders, serving the lemonade and taking the money to ensure there are no arguments on the day.

How To Make Lemonade

Now that you have made and decorated the stand, it’s time to actually make some lemonade. As a general rule follow the following recipe:

  • Place 3/4 cup of sugar and 1 cup of boiling water into a heatproof bowl. Dissolve sugar and leave to cool.
  • Add 1 cup of lemon juice into the sugar mixture and add 2 cups of water. Stir to combine.
  • Stir in ice cubes and lemon slices to serve.

There is nothing to stop you from branching out from regular lemonade with a few extra tweaks to make some different flavors.

What Can I Sell Instead of Lemonade?

Whilst a lemonade stand is of course perfect for selling lemonade, there are LOTS of other things the kids could sell too.

A few examples include:

  • Cupcakes and cake pops
  • Ice Cream
  • Play potions
  • Cards

These could either be related to lemonade or have a different spin on them such as watermelon or strawberry.

Putting It All Together

Once you have the stand, the decorations, the cupcakes and anything else you think you might like to have on the stall, it’s time to put it all together. Create a great appearance and you are more likely to attract those customers.

The key is creating a space that all the items can be seen, but they are not overwhelming each other. For example, check out the awesome lemonade stand ideas by Tikkido.
