It would be a shame not to include some Valentines Cupcakes in our “14 Days of Valentines feature”.

Today we will look at two cupcake decorating ideas using fondant and buttercream.  Whether you are planning a Valentines Day party or just cooking for your sweetheart, these simple Valentines cupcakes will be sure to please.

Adding fondant is a great way to decorate your cupcakes, and it leaves a smooth and solid covered surface for decorating.

To make these fondant Valentines cupcakes, simple cut out the fondant base, and hearts separately using appropriate sized cookie cutters.  Smooth the fondant over the top of the cupcakes using an easy glide fondant smoother, then make some small holes where you wish your sugar balls to sit.  That’s it!

If you prefer, you could decorate your cupcakes with buttercream.  All you will need to do is grab your piping bag and decide on any decorations to place on top of the buttercream.

For these cupcakes I used fondant hearts combined with some tylose powder and left them to harden.  The tylose powder will help the fondant hearts to sit upright rather then flopping over.

You could also make some chocolate hearts with a piping bag.  The key is to experiment and see what look you prefer.

With some basic buttercream and fondant hearts, it is easy to create some simple yet stunning Valentines cupcakes.

Whether you decide to do just one design or both, serve them separately or together, they will look gorgeous.

Tip:

Make sure that your cupcakes have completely cooled before you commence any decorating.

If you would like to finish off your decoration with some cupcake toppers, Smart Party Planning has designed a set of 12 for you to choose from.

To print the above Cupcake Toppers, please click here.

These cupcake toppers can be printed at home using a colour printer.

When you print ensure your settings are set to print the file in “Actual Size”.  Do not crop or reduce the size of the file.
