Cucumber Raita is a thick Yogurt mix with cucumber and Indian spices. It is a refreshing raita flavored with grated cucumber and spices.
It is a perfect accompaniment to an Indian meal, or you could say an Indian meal is incomplete without raita.
It has a cooling effect which makes it the best accompaniment to hot and spicy food. It can be served as a side dish with Indian flat bread or rice varieties.
In India, stuffed parathas and raita is one of the famous combinations. It is simple and easy to make, healthy and light on stomach. It can also be served as a dip with bread. It is aromatic and delicious. It gives your regular curd a flavorsome variation.
You can use it as a salad dressing too. You can add different chutneys like tamarind and mint chutney into it to get it sweet and tangy variations.
There is a popular Indian street food of India which is called dahi balla. That is a different kind of yogurt in which lentil fritters and chutneys are added. It is a famous tangy, spicy yogurt side dish which you will find in most Indian buffet spreads.
Cucumber raita is a refreshing combination of yogurt, herbs and cucumber. I have added a grated cucumber in it. You can dice cucumber in small pieces and add it too.
There are many different ways to prepare raita. I have made it quick and easy with fresh ingredients at my home. It will take 10 minutes to prepare this delicious Indian recipe. It is eggless and vegetarian.
Adjust the spices according your taste. The consistency of the raita will also depend on your taste, simply add or subtract the spices accordingly. You can add sugar or honey if you like it sweet and spicy mix.
I prepare my yogurt at home too, by fermenting milk in a natural way. The best part is that is is fresh and free from preservatives. You can use this yogurt to prepare your raita as well.
Yogurt can also be used for for marinating potatoes, added in curries and gravies and also make a savory and sweet drink called Lassi.
Enjoy this delicious raita with a nice filling Indian meal, or use it as a dip for breads and sticks. Happy cooking !!
