Having a child’s birthday that falls in an isolation period can be challenging. Perhaps you are used to having a birthday party every year, or taking the kids on a special excursion.

Whilst those things can’t happen under current Government regulations, there are still lots of things that we can do to ensure that kids have a special birthday and one that they will remember for ever (for the right reasons).

Today’s world is certainly not the one that we were celebrating at New Year. In fact, pretty much ALL the plans that we had for the year have been cancelled one by one. Now we are living somewhere in limbo from day to day, wondering what tomorrow and next week will bring us.

There is no point in planning anything right now, but rather we have the opportunity to live in the moment. Let’s face it, how often do we get that chance?

I am constantly running between school drop, kindy drop, pick ups, after school activities and work that I barely have time to breath let alone take a moment to reflect.

We are all experiencing a new world, and because it’s so new, it is hard to explain and make sense of what is happening to our kids.

Kids often see the world in ways that we don’t. Their ideas are different, and their perspectives are different.

Creating a time capsule is not only a great way of preserving this unique period in time, but it is also a fantastic opportunity to record what our children are feeling about it. Getting them to write down their thoughts and feelings is very therapeutic and can also lead to a lot of talking points.

I have created a 10 page printable pack that you can include in your time capsule. But, before we start to look at the printable’s, let’s look at some other things that you can include to compliment the printables in the time capsule.

What you will need to create an isolation time capsule

Your actual “time capsule” can be anything that you want it to be. It could be a large box, or a jar. It just needs to be big enough to fit everything in that you want to include. It is however a good idea to have something that you can properly seal.

Once you have found the ‘body’ of your time capsule, it is time to start finding lots of things to fill it with. This is all the items that will help to remember this time when you look back on it in years to come.

Memorabilia to include in your time capsule

There are many things that you can include in your isolation time capsule. There really are no rules, it is just a matter of what is important to you and your family.

However if you need a helping hand, here are a few ideas to get you started.

1. The isolation time capsule printable pack completed by your child/ren
2. A complete newspaper
3. Newspaper clippings with coronavirus updates from around the world and in your country
4. A family photograph
5. A photograph of your home where you spent your isolation time. Children might also like to include a photo of their bedroom, their home school set up and the garden that they spent a lot of time playing in.
6. A picture of any pets
7. A dated coin
8. A painted pebble with the date on
9. Family handprints
10. A letter from Grandparents
11. A list of daily blessings (it is important to remember good things that are happening too)
12. A list of things that made you laugh whilst in isolation
13. Details of any BIG MOMENTS that happened. For example, did anyone have a birthday? How was it celebrated? Did any children loose a tooth? Did the tooth fairy make it through quarantine?

Isolation Time Capsule Printables

The isolation time capsule printables are a very important inclusion to your time capsule. These printables will be documenting what your child is thinking and feeling about this time. There are several printables and some of them can be completed on different days allowing further expression for your child.

There is no reason to rush completing these printables. It doesn’t matter whether it takes a few days or a few weeks to complete your time capsule. This activity is to undertake during your time in isolation or lock down and therefore can take as long as it needs to.

There are two packs available, one for boys and one for girls. The only difference is the boy or girl pictures on them.

These pages could be printed as many times as you need to record details on different days.

The “about my day” page has been designed specifically for this purpose. This allows children to document like a diary recording the date, and what has happened for the day. An extra lined page has also been included if the children run out of room on the one page.

Whilst children’s “world” quite often only has meaning in their own backyard, the “outside world” worksheet allows children to talk about and understand that this situation is not just happening to them, but to everyone all around the world at the same time.

Let’s not forget that there will also be an end, at some point in time. The “other side” worksheet will be one of the last that the children complete and probably the last thing that is added to the time capsule.

Creating printable coloring in pages was something I started doing last year and I don’t know why I left it so long!

Kids love coloring so it is no surprise that the pages have been popular.

I also love creating them, and seeing these cute little pages come together. What’s even better is the shriek of excitement from my kids when they see them come off the printer.

It totally makes it all worth while and I know I am on the right track.

Their excitement is also a good way to get a sign of approval that the coloring pages are good enough to share with you. The moment that the noses get turned up, I know I have to go back to square one!

Alas, these rainbow coloring pages were met with the seal of approval and I am therefore allowed to share them with you.

Although it was hard for the kids not to like them. I mean who doesn’t love creating a beautiful rainbow!

I absolutely love everything about this party, from the stunning setting chosen to hold the party, to the creative invitations, delightful decorations and a spread of absolutely amazing party food.

Justine takes us on a journey into the world of Peppa, and all you have to do is enjoy.

Justine said about the party planning: “As with most 2 year olds, Jacqueline absolutely adores Peppa and loves going to the park. A Peppa Pig styled picnic was the perfect way to celebrate her 2nd birthday among family and friends.

There was no real contigency plan so we were really blessed with perfect picnic weather!

For her invites, I wanted to incorporate one of Jacqueline’s favorite things- Puzzles! I decided to print them as toddler sized puzzles.  

I was delighted to find a company in Australia that made personalised 9-piece wooden puzzles and I was so pleased how they turned out. It was a delight giving these out to her friends who enjoyed putting them together. It made the perfect Peppa Pig party game and also doubled as the Peppa Pig favors.

We ordered a personalised “Peppa goes to Jacqueline’s birthday party” book and used that as a guest signature book. It’s her favourite book at the moment!”.

The flow of this party decoration is made to look effortless. Everything has been put together perfectly to represent a casual but inviting picnic.

A stunning display of pastel colors combined with the party props invites you to spend a lazy afternoon relaxing.

Justine said “The party was held under a beautiful oak tree at the Heide Museum of Modern Art. When designing her party, I wanted to incorporate hints of gingham to portray a picnic feel and use various elements of the cartoon whilst maintaining a pastel and pretty style.

True to every PLV styled party, we setup a kid’s picnic table using milk crates and a wooden board which featured a “Muddy Puddle” gumboot centrepiece. Each kid had Peppa Pig favors which included a personalised “Peppa’s house” gable box to take home, placed on coloring sheet placeholders. The table was adorned with crayons and mini Peppa Pig books to keep the kids entertained.

I designed all of the printable’s myself including the personalised gable box resembling Peppa’s house.

I fell in love with the Pavilion when I saw it online (Win Green) and thought it made a perfect picnic play area for the kids. This was also a birthday gift for our little one, something she will grow up with for years to come”.

The selection of food displayed at this Peppa Pig party is absolutely sensational. With delicious savouries and tempting desserts, everyone is catered for.

Justine said “The party featured a vintage dresser Peppa pig dessert table, vintage drink cart station, a savories picnic buffet, a kid’s picnic table and a Peppa & Friends kids pavillion play area.

For savouries, we served an array of sandwiches, Cafe Vue picnic lunch boxes, fruit platters, bread and more. A basket of red apples resembled “Grandpa Pig’s orchard apples” and a bunting of cartoon scenes from the show adorned the table.

Desserts included a delicious two tier Peppa pig citrus cake, hand piped Peppa-shaped macarons that were as delicious as they looked, 2D Peppa & friends white chocolate cupcakes, mini vanilla cupcakes, candy, chocolate coins and Peppa pig iced biscuits”.
