What was the last party you held?

This blog is a passion for me, I love holding parties, planning all the details and seeing the event come to life.  I would like this blog to be a valuable resource for YOU..somewhere you know you can come to for tips and ideas to create your special event.

This is your opportunity to share what you would like to see here and I will do my best to incorporate it.

So, lets start the ball rolling with something simple!

Most of us have held a party at some stage, whether it be a week, a month or a year ago.

So…what was the LAST party you held?

What did you do to make it special?

Did you follow any principles from the party planning checklist?

I’m intrigued…please share!!

Thanks for reading

Catherine

I think one of the issues I mainly have when planning a party is – what type of food is best so that every person at least has not only good food, but also have the foods they actually like to eat.

Depending on the type of event, finger foods are a great choice but so many little dishes to do. On the other hand, it’s easier to do large plates ie: meats, rice/potatoes with vegs but the choice will of course be much less. I hardly ever decorate unless the event is in a hall etc. Why waste money on things that people will only see for the first 2 mins, if that.

Oh, and if wine is included, I only buy quality wine if the event is for my friends who are into wine, otherwise I see it as a waste of money when people just drink alcohol for the sake of it without savouring the moment. Naughty, but I am paying. 🙂

If your friends are into wine then they would probably notice if you gave them a cheap bottle….so that is lovely that you can treat them to some nice wine. I’m sure they really appreciate it! Decorations are certainly not for everyone, but depending on the type of party, they can really add that finishing touch 🙂 I have written a post about food catering which may help you in the future http://www.smartpartyplanning.com/?p=200
Do you have any examples of recent parties you would like to share? Thanks for the visit!

My last party was for my 30th. We had an 1981 theme which was brilliant! Loads of cartoon characters and celebrities from 1981!

    Off the top of my head;
    Skeletor
    Rubix Cube
    A spaceman
    Spot the Dog
    Mario

    Brilliant fun.

Oh that is a great idea Jetpacker. Most theme year parties are based around the music and clothing of the era, so this is a great spin on the normal era party. I love it! Thanks for sharing…this is a must for the future I think ;0)

Last party we held, I believe, was the New Years, just had a single family over, and we just kinda hung out. No real big deal. We keep trying to plan our wedding, but keep having to postpone it due to legal issues. (long story)

What ended up making it special, was just having people over. We live in a very small town, so it was just nice to have someone over. Finger foods abounded, and the key lime pie was wonderful, problem is, we can’t find the same brand again, GRRRR!!!!

In the end, I wish we could throw more party type things, or just have more people over. Nothing quite like a little get together.

Looks like you will have to throw another party this New Years Dan!! Parties don’t always have to be extravagant and often the simplest ones are the best. It sounds like the food at your party was a real hit ;0) I’m planning on having a wedding section on here, so that may help you with some ideas for planning your big day. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your story ;0)

    Hey Cath

I got a problem maybe you can help me. If I have a party or shindig which I use to do often but not no more. The reason I don’t is because I’ll make all this food and nobody eats.

It seems my friends rather drink! I hate that because they drink on an empty stomach and get drunk then I either got to babysit them or throw them out.

How can I get them to eat?

It’s a bit of a tough one Tamron. You know the saying…”you can lead a horse to water, but you cant make it drink”! You can’t force your friends to eat if they don’t want to….they are big enough to make their own decisions! Is there any food that you know they would like to pick at whilst drinking…maybe even take out pizza? At the end of the day, if they are more inclined to drink to get drunk, then I’m afraid it doesn’t matter how good the food is…they will be unlikely to give much thought to it. It’s probably more just trial and error with that group of friends to see what they might be tempted by.
