There is one little voice in me that says “absolutely, this is perfect mother/daughter bonding time”.
Then there is that other little voice that screams “Nooooo…if we survive the actual baking, there is the cleaning up and that’s just one mess I don’t want to have to deal with today”.
It’s a tough call.
Meanwhile, all you can hear is “please mommy, please, pleeassseeee”.
Ok. Sometimes that first little voice has to win.
It’s these memories that she will remember right. The two of us working together in the kitchen, singing along to her favourite tunes and really there isn’t THAT much mess to clear up.
Ok, I’m kidding myself on the mess, but I’ll keep thinking about the happy memories.
Is that little voice screaming at you too?
Rest assured. These banana puffs are absolutely ideal for this situation.
Not only are they the perfect treat to bake with pre-schoolers due to their absolute easy, but they are also incredibly delicious.
With a crunchy outside and soft banana filling, the kids are going to absolutely love these.

They are quite sticky and messy to make, but as we already know that baking with kids is a messy affair, you are already prepared for it.
Puff pastry is hardly full of nutritional value, so don’t be fooled that just because it contains banana it’s healthy.
However, if you want to treat the kids, this is a great way to do it.
However if you are happy with the non-healthy element, then stay tuned for the recipe!
Now you know that when I say something is super easy, I really do mean it!
I am all for recipes that take hardly any time to prepare, something that the kids can help out with, and are also very yummy.
These banana puffs fit the bill perfectly.
I made them with banana and nutmeg, but you could use cinnamon if you preferred (I had run out of it, so nutmeg was my second choice, but still a good one.
All you need is the following:
- 2 sheets of puff pastry
- 1-2 bananas (depending on the size)
- 1 egg
- A splash of milk
- Cinnamon or nutmeg
- Some brown or raw sugar.
How To Make Homemade Banana Puffs
Simply lay a sheet of puff pastry out and cover with the milk and egg (which you have previously combined).
Slice the 1-2 bananas (depending on the size) and layer them on top of the puff pastry sheet.
Lay your second sheet of puff pastry on top of the bananas and then cover again with the milk/egg mixture.
Sprinkle with some brown or raw sugar basically for fun and some extra sweetness.
Bake at 180 degrees for 12-15 minutes (or until golden brown). That’s it!
Your banana sugar puffs are ready to enjoy straight out of the oven (if you can’t wait for them to cool).
My daughter made the ones pictured all by herself, which just goes to show that they are incredibly easy to do.
